Franconian Cuisine

The Franconian Cuisine invites you with dishes like Schäufele and Klößen with a freshly tapped Beer. Homemade fruit brandy with a hearty Brotzeit in the evening is the perfect ending to a relaxing day and everything is reasonably priced. Franconian Switzerland also has the highest density of breweries worldwide.

Regional Cities Worth Seeing

Nuremberg
Nuremberg offers architecture from the Middle Ages to modern times. From the Kaiserburg you have a great view over the historic district. During the advent season you can visit the well-known Nuremberg Christmas Market on the Hauptmarkt in front of the Frauenkirche.

Bamberg
The former diocesan town, characterized by the Dom and the romantic fisher settlement “little venice” has its unique charm.

Bayreuth
The margravial Bayreuth with its impressive castles and theaters as well as the historic gardens Eremitage are always worth a visit.

Forchheim
Last but not least, the small city Forchheim with its picturesque market square is always worth a visit.
During summer the beer cellars are inviting you to have a nice lunch with a cold beer. During the winter moths the historic town hall is transformed into one of the most beautiful Christmas Markets in the world.

Beautiful Castles and Churches

The castle in Egloffstein offers a great view over the surrounding valley. Gößweinstein is known for its impressive Cathedral. There are 10 Castles, 30 Museums and numerous churches in the area awaiting your visit.

Wildlife Park and Zoo

Located in the immediate vicinity the Wildlife Park Hundshaupten has animals raging from reindeers, raccoons, wolfs, elks and many more. If you are interested in seeing more exotic animals, the zoo in Nuremberg is the right address for you.

Easter Fountains

An old fashion tradition in the area is to decorate fountains with painted eggs during Easter. In Franconian Switzerland there is one decorated fountain in almost every village. In the neighboring village Bieberbach there is one with over 11.000 hand-painted eggs – the biggest in the world with an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records

Amusement Parks

For Families with children of every age there are different amusement parks located nearby. For small children the Fränkische Wunderland in Plech is most suitable. For older children the Playmobilland in Zirndorf or the Freizeitpark Schloss Thurn is an alternative. Everybody looking for more action, rides and shows, there is the Freizeitland Geiselwind.

Wellness and Relaxation

Spas
The Spa in Obernsees with its thermal water, the wellness area and sauna area is the perfect destination for a relaxing time. There are also spas in Hersbruck, Staffelstein or Stein.
